Relaxer's first long-form release is an unsettling environment, an entirely beatless alien terrain where uneasy feelings, strangled media transmissions, and haunted new age music tumble against one another in inhuman form. A Family Disease is an aural menagerie of contemporary existence: a steady stream of news stories on the opioid and housing crises, horror movies memories, predatory self help, nightlife claustrophobia, infomercial garbage, and the impossibility of true escapism with moments of unsettling beauty.

Relaxer writes: “I've always conceived of techno as a vehicle that can carry all sorts of ideas inside it. The tunneling rhythmic structure supports waves of sound that can pile up or recede, but it's there tying everything together. In my live set I include lots of subliminal sounds, movie clips, spoken word etc that I imagine to be part of a larger, expansive audio universe that the melodic and rhythmic leads travel through. Dissonant chords, arguments, screams, warm new age-y pads and the like trace the outline of life's stresses, horrors and fleeting moments of peace or grace. This tape is built out of those fragments, the interstitial segments that color and shade the rest of the set.”
